The entire songbooks of Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell and Neil Young, for sure. You won't find a bigger fan of The Band than me, but Levon Helm is so much Arkansas and such a major influence to their sound and songwriting that I can't easily slip them into the purely "Canadian" category, though if I were from the Great White North I'd surely claim them as my own.
One of my favorite songs not by those Canadians (and Southerner) is Ian & Sylvia's "Four Strong Winds"... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjfTDPhMdTk Love me some Guess Who, as well. My favorite tune of theirs being "Undun"... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLMF5GM0Kt8 And one of the greatest Jazz pianists of all time was and remains Oscar Peterson... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ec-FrnaU0rs Gotta mention Paul Anka. Will I spin you some "Donna" or even Frank belting out "My Way"? Nope. Heeeeere's "Johnny's Theme"!... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keiuXB3dJ0E And how is it no Rush fans have sniffed out this thread yet? |

I know she is considered poppish, but I love Canadian Avril Lavinge.
My favorite song by her is Nobody's Home and I also love her new song from the Alice In Wonderland Soundtrack. |

Re: The Unoffical Canadian Tuneage thread
Yeah, I just recently saw Wolf Parade myself and they rocked my socks off. Thank you to the f family for bringing some cool to this thread.
My contribution for today (also seen them live at the same festival, definitely the musical highlight, extremely tight live): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiSa7THgxrI |

Ok, not my favourite Candian band (that would be Arcade Fire), but this being a movie site and all, thought I'd mention Anvil (Anvil: The Story of Anvil is such a good film)
