2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
2016 MoFo Film Awards - The Nominations ...Here we go again Mofos. Last year saw a pretty good turn out. It seems that each year more and more people participate, which is great. There will be complaints about the categories, about not seeing everything, about deadlines....who cares. The DEADLINE for your nominations, which will be PM'd to me, is MARCH 1st. That gives everyone, the rest of this year and 2 months into the new year to watch some damn movies. After I receive nominations, I will tally them up and present to everyone the 2016 Mofo Film Award Nominees. You can nominate, up to FIVE films per category. You don't need to nominate 5, it can be less, but no more. You DO NOT need to nominate, or vote in every category. Just the ones you want to. Private Message me your nominations. Wikipedia is a good source for films released in 2016. If you have any doubt, ask, people will be glad to help out. At that point you'll have an additional month to watch any of the nominated films, if you so please to. The categories are: Best Film of The Year Worst Film of the Year Best Director of the Year Best Actor of the Year Best Actress of the Year Best Supporting Actor of the Year Best Supporting Actress of the Year Best Screenplay of the Year Best Animated Film of the Year Biggest Surprise of the Year Biggest Disappointment of the Year Most Overrated Film of the Year Most Underrated Film of the Year Most Memorable Scene of the Year Best Trailer of the Year Best Cast of the Year Best Cinematography of the Year Breakout Performance of the Year Best Score Best Visual Effects You'll notice there is one new category, Most Underrated Film of the Year. Previous winners: 2013 Best Film of the Year: Gravity 2014 Best Film of the Year: Birdman 2015 Best Film of the Year: Mad Max: Fury Road 2013 Best Director of the Year: Alfonso Cuaron 2014 Best Director of the Year: Alejandro González Iñárritu 2015 Best Director of the Year: George Miller Mad Max won the big two categories with Best Picture and Best Director, but only has one more win under its belt, Best VFX. For a total a 3 Mofo Awards. Ex Machina the underdog of sorts walked away with 4 Mofo Awards, two of them from Vikander herself. It took home Best Screenplay and Biggest Surprise as well. The Revenant was the "big" winner of the night, taking home 5 Mofo Awards, even if one of them is Most Overrated Film. It also got to grab Best Cinematography, two awards for acting from Hardy and DiCaprio as well as having the most memorable scene of the year with the bear attack. The Revenant - 5 Mofo Awards Birdman - 5 Mofo Awards Will any film beat those two? They currently share the record for most awards at 5 a piece. Are there any front runners this year? Will Mofo break the trend of following the Oscars footsteps and not match up with ANY category? Doubtful, but the decision is in your hands. 2013 Mofo Award Winners 2014 Mofo Award Winners 2015 Mofo Award Winners The years are indeed messed up on those posts. At least I've seen more 2016 stuff this time around. I'll send in my nominations soon.
|
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
yikes i think ive seen like...1 movie from 2016
|
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
Nominations shouldn't be allowed until the end of the year.
|
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
|
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
yeah it's fine to make this thread now, but it makes zero sense to start accepting nominations when there's still two months left of movies. dont accept noms until january 1st.
|
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
I've seen jack from this year.
At least that's what I feel like... we'll see when the year comes to an end. |
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
I start the thread early to raise awareness. I don't usually receive lists until February.
People can add or alter their lists as well until the deadline. Good suggestion on not accepting lists until the new year though. |
I live in a parallel world a couple of years behind everybody else so same as last year I'll pass on this. No need to feel sorry for me - I'm gonna make an absolute fortune on the baseball World Series [sic] in 2018 :D
|
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
Just in case any of you aren't aware, the best film of the year so far is Everybody Wants Some!! ;)

I'm making everyone aware that the following 3 movies saw wide release in 2016, even if they are 2015 on imdb:
The Witch Eye in the Sky Green Room I think all three deserve attention or at least a chance. |

I'm also up in the air about including Embrace of the Serpent due to it having similar release dates, but the fact that it got an Oscar nomination earlier this year would suggest that it should be considered a purely 2015 film. I'll let the others weigh in on this, though. EDIT: Also, would High-Rise and Hardcore Henry be eligible for anything? |

Not sure if i'm going to send one. March 1st might be a bit too early for me to have seen a good amount for this year and i don't like sending a list after only seeing a few. We'll see what happens though.
What i've seen so far ranked: 01.Everybody Wants Some 02.The Witch 03.The Nice Guys 04.Zootopia 05.Green Room 06.Finding Dory |
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
Camo, you really ought to watch Hail, Caesar!, I'd be interested to hear what you think, I thought it was great. That's my number two at the moment.
The films I want to see the most are probably Paterson, American Honey and La La Land, then the likes of Arrival and The Neon Demon. |
I keep forgetting about it for some reason. I'll try and get to it some time this week.
Other than a few you mentioned i most want to see Park Chan Wooks "The Handmaiden", Pedro Almodavars "Julieta", Jeff Nichols "Loving" and Scorceses "Silence". As well as Alex Gibneys new documentary "Zero Days". Probably some others i am forgetting or haven't heard of yet. |
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
Everyone needs to check out Hell Or High Water. Especially you Coen fans. Best Coen brothers movie of the year by a mile. ;)
|
Top five of 2016:
1. The Witch 2. Knight of Cups (if eligible, had a 2016 release in US) 3. The Neon Demon 4. Everybody Wants Some!! 5. The Job Hunt |
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
I was going to ask about Knight Of Cups as well

Also ive always had a things for Isla Fisher so im so happy I finally get to see her in something that actually looks good, ive sat through so many ***** movies for her

|

I still need to see Everybody Wants Some. I've heard nothing but good things and I respect Linklater as a director.
|
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
If you are a fan of Dazed and Confused there's a good chance you'll like it. Obviously it is quite a bit different with it being about college baseball players but it is the same type of coming of age film as that and is very similarly paced and in tone. And it's hilarious.
Also i added Hunt For The Wilderpeople to that post because i had to after seeing it haha. |
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
Have you only seen 12 this year Camo? Then I don't feel so bad haha.
|
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
Yeah just 12. How many have you seen?
|
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
Planning on watching a lot of 2016 films in the next few weeks.
The Handmaiden is fantastic by the way, people!!! |

Funny thing is he hated Everybody Wants Some!! because he thought the humor was really dumb, yet he loved Deadpool and found it "sophisticated".
I love my dad, but I'm not so crazy about his taste in movies. :p |

So if these are the Mofo Oscars, do we also have a Mofo Razzies?
|
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
There's a worst film category. No worst performance ones or anything, at least not in the first post.
Also updated my post from two pages back with Julieta, up to a huge 13 watched  |

Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
I know you are probably joking just saying though i seriously doubt a mofo razzies would work. Participation in these film awards has always been a bit small simply because alot of us won't start watching so many 2016 films until through next year. And obviously most people (the ones who don't watch anything anyway) avoid films they think look bad so a Razzies would have even less participation.
As i said there's already a worst film category, at most a worst actor and actress one should be added in my opinion. |
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
I was sort of joking, yea. Though if someone did try to do it, I'd send in a list....But I agree participation would be real light. It'd be better if Suspect would add a couple Razzie categories to the MoFoies.

Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
Personally, I would not be interested in a MoFo Razzies. I like celebrating the good. I don't care very much about the bad.

Updated my post two pages back since i'm now at 15 films . Watching 13TH later as well. |
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
I think this guy is reason enough to include a Worst Supporting Actor category...
https://i2.wp.com/cdn.batman-news.co...Trailer-HD.jpg |
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
Added both The Intervention and The Invitation to my list. Saw The Invitation awhile ago, but completely forgot about it. Maybe that's not a good sign.
|
Added 13TH and Swiss Army Man to my list: both in my top ten. Seventeen watched so far and over the next week i'm going to watch American Honey and The Salesman, might be going to see Rogue One too but i'm not sure on that yet.
|
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
Sound interesting, is the submissions just for murica's movies?
|
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
Of course not. Why would it be?
|
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
Just asking
|
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
Any 2016 release is eligible. Does not have to be American. If you are not sure if the film qualifies, just ask.
Received one submission so far, told them they can wait and re-submit at end of year if they see more movies. But it currently looks like Ghostbusters remake will sweep. |
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
Trying to decide if it would be worth it to include Best Documentary/Best Foreign-Language categories.
|
Re: 2016 Mofo Film Awards - The Nominations
I'd love to. Participation in this is always low because people complain about not seeing movies for the year. If people think those categories will be popular enough, I say let's do it.
