Interested in talking about anything in general? Join the chill club. Of course, that depends if the members accept you, but I'm confident we will have a pretty easygoing and accepting group.

We can talk about anything. Movies sure, but mainly life and just using this as a virtual place to hang out, when we are bored and what not. Treat it as if we are hanging out in a bar, a club, a restaurant. Whatever setting works for you.

We can ask for advice from one another. We can throw birthday parties. We can drink. We can have celebrations. If anyone else has ideas we can do that too!

I don't think we should worry about members. This should just be a social environment where anyone can talk to each other. We don't want to exclude anyone.

So how is everyone?

Me, I'm slightly depressed because the last day of my vacation is today. I have to go back tomorrow.

I'm in. I have begun some study just lately, so I'll be in and out a bit. But I'll definitely be joining in where I can. This place keeps me sane! (I think. :D)

That sucks. The last day is the worst. I'm not officially on vacation but during the summer my work load decreases a lot. It's nice to have a lot of free time. I have a lot I want to do with it.

What are you studying?

Business managment (yuck), but I want to change what I'm doing. It's all free through my work and there are a range of different areas of study, so I'm sure to find something that interests me.

I was back Wednesday. I've just been off work until tomorrow.

Never seen West Wing... can't really go wrong with the other two, though. Frenzy is an underrated gem. Have you ever seen it?

Anyone can join! I knew you weren't a teenager because you said someone looked young enough to be your son. I didn't think you were one before that either.

I assume everyone is a teenager when I don't know their age. Until I learn they're not.

My "prom" date is who looks young enough to be my son. My daughter is only a few years older than him.

I could stay in school forever. Every once in awhile, I go and take a class on something and I'm itching to do that again. It's cool you don't have to pay for it. I'd take everything!

I like school when they're classes I enjoy. I took a philosophy class and an Eastern Humanities class and loved them.

Yep. There is a whole crew of us that are a few months apart in age. I'm happy enough to leave my 20s behind.

I am. I love learning, especially science. This subject is difficult because it doesn't hold my attention, but I'm persevering and I plan to work my way through all of it.

Science is the best. I admire scientists the most. I would love to be one, but I'm not very good at it. It took me an hour to understand the second law of thermodynamics.

My friend teaches epistemology and her husband teaches ancient philosophy, so I've learned some stuff through them. In high school there were classes I didn't like, but in college I enjoyed almost everything I took. I miss it.

I'd say you're way ahead of a lot of people, they wouldn't get it in a lifetime.

My daughter just graduated with her degree in Biology. She is going back in the fall to get a double degree and take Microbiology class as well... Im sure that one will cost me a lot of money!

Well, I understand the basic concept.

I have a hard time focusing on things I'm not truly interested in. Which sucks, because I value knowledge more than just about anything.

I just read the wikipedia entry for it and didn't understand half a dozen words so hopefully it is not central to the plot of Frenzy.

Me too. I studied behavioral sciences in college. Also a big fan of natural science. Those two go hand in hand though really.

Oh, it's crucial to understanding Frenzy. You'll be terribly confused if you don't have a complete knowledge of the laws of thermodynamics.

I think that's true of anyone. I know I'm having to really concentrate on these business subjects and it feels like my attention is just sliding off them. But they're not going to beat me. :)

I'd assume Wolf of Wall Street would have dominated, and probably Blue is the Warmest Color. Those are the two films from 2013 most talked about here.

I actually wasn't that impressed by Leto, to be honest. I wanted Michael Fassbender to win. Also liked Barkhad Abdi and Jonah Hill.

I thought Leto did a good job. A lot of times when a man plays that role it comes across as very stereotypical and over the top sometimes to the point of being cartoonish. I thought he brought a believability to it and a vulnerability. Having sad that, I don't remember if I voted for him. I really like Jonah Hill. It's likely I voted for him.

Because Leto won every award and I like Jonah Hill and I thought his character was funny.

I think I still voted for Matthew McConaughey for best actor, though.

I like Leto's Rayon character more than Jonah Hill's Wolf of Wall Street character, though. But I do think that -- in a way -- the Rayon craze was a little overrated. I understood it, but I did feel that there wasn't that much Rayon actually in the movie.

Leto did a fine job. I just wasn't crazy about it like a lot of people were.

The performances are definitely what carried Dallas Buyers Club for me. I loved Fassbender though, he got my vote.

I would be up for the group Wolf commentary if it's at the right time for me.

I really didn't like 12 Years much at all. What was up with some of the performances in that movie?

If I like Wolf, I will do it. I'm holding off because I'm weird and I like to keep some directors films that I really like unwatched. Like why I didn't get to Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore until today. And I still haven't seen Mean Streets.

I'll probably try to get one going for the end of this year. I love that kind of stuff and was disappointed as well.

Yeah, I think he got some credit from me ( and probably others as well) because he surprised me. I don't remember him being particularly that good in anything else.

Who didn't you like? Dano was the only one I didn't care for.

Anyone got any ideas on some potential 2014 oscar favorites?

Pitt was so bad it was weird and Dano was showboating like crazy and should have been told to tone it down. The leads were all good, but some of the supporting actors I thought were pretty bad.

Yeah Pitt was pretty bad as well. I forgot about him. Four or Five were really great though, IMO.

In real life, something about Jared Leto seems like he needs a good slapping. He is so... "look at me, I'm cutesy, I have long hair and I play in a rock band and girls are crazy about me."

But as an actor, I like him. I liked him in the movie Chapter 27. Some other roles of his, though... I have Prefontaine and couldn't get into it at the time. And I remember him in Urban Legend. Saw nothing special about it, but that was just a horror film.

I think Foxcatcher will be a big Oscar favorite. I can honestly see Carrell getting a Best Actor nomination, which would be awesome.

Interesting. I had no problems with the performance, I actually think 12 Years a Slave should've won Best Ensemble over American Hustle at the Golden Globes.

I agree that Dano is often over the top, but I'm a fan of his. He's a good actor.

I'm terrible with that. I do know probably 70% of what I end up liking comes out the last few months of the year. Grand Budapest is sure to be the exception for me this year.

I always remember him as his character in Requiem for a Dream.

Yeah, there were some great performances. Fassbender and the actor who won best supporting actress and the lead (I forget their names) were all superb.

I said this in another thread, but I think I would have preferred to see a movie where that movie ends.

You should. I don't know if you'd like it. You might. But, I honestly think it's a movie every teenager should see. It will instantly keep them away from drugs forever. They should be showing that in schools.

Godoggo, I tried to watch this movie you had on your favorites list -- Birdy, I think it's called. With Nicolas Cage.

That sounded interesting but I stopped watching after a half hour. I did skip to the end to see what happened.

Woops, I meant Inherent Vice, not Inheritance Vice. It's Paul Thomas Anderson's new film.

I thought it was pretty great, the kind of thing that only comes along every few years. Not going to be one of my favorites but I am glad I saw it and it will stick with me.

Boyhood is going to get too much credit because it took 12 years to make for aging effects. And everyone will love it. Just seems like a gimmick to me.
