POPEYE
1980 - Robert Altman

The movie is an infamous mess, but Swee'pea is pretty darn adorable, and at least you P.T. Anderson fans can see and hear the central theme from Punch-Drunk Love (Harry Nilsson's "He Needs Me" performed by Shelley Duvall's Olive Oyl) in its original context. By the by, the little tyke who plays Swee'pea is Robert Altman's own grandson.

And congrats!

Congratulatory libations all round!

Look Who's Talking. I mean this movie gave me an idea about wishing people happy birthday that I still use to this day and Bruce Willis?

C'mon!

I actually don't like watching films with babies...not those dreadful tv movies about sick babies or any action movies where the baby is in danger, or any slushy film where the mother dies and the baby is brought up by some clueless relative who grows to love it...

Having said that I will nominate Pan's Labyrinth, which falls into the second category, even if it probably isn't something you want to watch if you (or your partner) is pregnant (as I was when I saw it in the cinema, it scared me a lot!)

And if you don't mind the third category, Jack and Sarah is fairly cute.

Willow

The expressions on Elora Danan's face throughout the movie are priceless...

Congratulations Jamie!

Re: Favourite Movies about Babies.

Congratulations!

I know I'm forgetting some, but here goes.

Some that are depressing . . .

Agnes of God
A Cry in the Dark
First Born

The not too popular baby films . . .

Father of the Bride II
Heartburn
Immediate Family
The Hand That Rocks the Cradle
Undercover Blues
Junior
Hush

The ones I've been avoiding. Not that I shouldn't have avoided some of the others up above . . .

Baby Geniuses
Nine Months

One that I know of, that I still need to view . . .

She's Having a Baby

Then you have some horror movies, about babies . . .

Rosemary's Baby
The Guardian
The Omen
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers

Now, here are my favorites . . .

Baby Boom

"No, no, no! I can't have a baby, because I have a 12:30 lunch meeting"

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...XL._AA240_.jpg

Raising Arizona

"You get back up there, and get me one of those babies. They got more than they can handle."

"Son, you got a panty on your head!"

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...DL._AA240_.jpg

For Keeps

"The French do amazing things with their stuffing. They use apples, cinnamon, and raisins."
"That's not stuffing. It's fruit!"

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...ML._AA240_.jpg

Three Men and a Baby

"I'll give you $1,000 dollars, if you do it."

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...1L._AA240_.jpg

Parenthood

"You know Mrs. Buckman, you need a license to buy a dog, to drive a car . . . hell, you even need a license to catch a fish, but they'll let any butt-reaming ******* be a father."

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...4L._AA240_.jpg

I'll probably be back! :)

Yep, and there has been another one bugging me, as well. It is a horror movie, of some sort.

I believe I have seen most of She's Having a Baby. It's just been so long ago, I don't recall much of it.

I've never heard of that one, but from the sound of it, I can't say I mind. ;)

My favorites, Parenthood and Raising Arizona have already been mentioned.
On the subject of horror movies about babies, It's Alive is a so-bad-it's-good cheesy horror movie about a homicidal monster baby.

Braindead is Peter Jackson's ne plus ultra of low-budget gore comedies. It's also called Dead Alive. I like it.

I love Parenthood. So many different situations, and plenty of laughs.

Taylor Buckman:
"What was that?"

Karen Buckman:
"Uh, it was . . . it was an electric ear cleaner."

Taylor Buckman:
"Well, it was kind of big."

Grandma:
"It sure was!"

I'm not going to say what it was, but it did require batteries. :D

Congratulations and good luck to you and your wife Jamie. :)

I love Parenthood too. It makes me laugh and touches me in many ways. One of my favorites.

I also want to add Bachelor Mother (1939) to the mix. Ginger Rogers and David Niven are perfect together in this comedy of misunderstandings. Great supporting cast too.

Also, The Court Jester. Baby with the royal birth mark needs protection from the bad guys. MAybe not a traditional baby story you're looking for, but it's alot of fun.

My favorite movie baby is the one in Who Framed Roger Rabbit!

Congratulations! You've completed the fun part of fatherhood for now, and it usually takes 3-4 years before you become a fully functioning part of the family again; thats about when the kid starts talking plainly enough for you to know what it's saying. Until then, it's mostly mother and baby, with you following along like a pack-mule with all of the baby's necessities for an outing. You'll work like a longshoreman in between changing diapers, trips to the clinic, and all of that other stuff.

But you'll survive it--I've had three of my own and seven grandchildren. When my first child was born, I was in a panic over being saddled with such responsibility. Moreover, she was a daughter and I grew up with brothers, no sister. And as Gordon McRae sang in Carousel (1956), "You can have fun with a son/But you gotta be a father to a girl."

Of course, my daughter turned out to be delightful, a pretty little angel who to this day can work her daddy like a gold mine with just a smile. So when my second child came along, I was merely worried about how I could love another child as much as my daughter. Turns out my son Mike made it easy for me; he was nothing like the hellions I and my brothers had been. So when I faced fatherhood for the third time, I wasn't even concerned anymore. So what if I was still in graduate school, still had student loans to pay, and already was working fulltime nights and attending school during the day. Despite my fears, everything had gone well with my first two children. And everything went well when Mark came along--in fact it may have been better for him since I had learned to relax by then.

Anyway, I envy all the new experiences ahead of you among the familar ol' chores, because every child is different and it's a delight to discover those differences. I'll pass along the same advice my dad gave me: Always do what you tell a child you're going to do, whether its discipline or rewards. You tell a child you're buying a pony for Christmas, there better be horse-apples under that Christmas tree when he gets up that morning. Never punish a child when you're angry. You can damage a child like that, physically and emotionally (that's the hardest rule to live up to because they can make you so mad--or so scared--sometimes). Third thing is to make sure, no matter what else happens, that child knows you love him. Say it, show it, and mean it--you can't fool kids about this. And hang on to the memories you make together because time can go so fast.

Stick with it, because your reward finally comes when you have grandchildren who you can spoil and agitate and fill with sugar. And then send them home for their parents to tend to!

Congratulations!!!! That's awesome news.

Are you looking for movies that focus on the babies or being a parent?

Son of the Mask is a silly movie - but good "lousy father" humor.
The Ex - pretty funny stuff about becoming a dad.

Is this the type you're looking for? Or more the concept of "Cheaper By the Dozen" - that's a good one, too.

Labyrinth has a toddler in it does that count. I really liked Waitress though it's more about pregnancy. And in Where The Heart Is the baby grows up.

Great, another Parenthood fan. I don't know of many. I love that movie, and I've watched it many times. The grandmother is hilarious. From getting in the wrong car, to the . . . "That man reminded me of your father." :D Her "life is a roller-coaster" story was great.

I've never heard of those two other movies. I'll read up on them.
