My Favorite Movie Teachers

Some of Hollywood's most memorable characters have been teachers who have had profound effect on their students and sometimes it can be the basis for a really entertaining movie. Here we go...my favorite movie teachers: |
Re: My Favorite Movie Teachers
No love for Michelle Pfeiffer in Dangerous Minds? Damn, always wanted a teacher like her.

Sister Ligouri, The Trouble with Angels https://i.ytimg.com/vi/2ILGE3vjjiY/maxresdefault.jpg A few years before she became Sister Jacqueline on The Flying Nun, Marge Redmond played the only teacher at St. Frances Academy that Mary Clancy (Hayley Mills) and Rachel Devery (June Harding) actually liked. |

Herbert Gower, Teachers https://70srichard.files.wordpress.c.../11/custer.png There's a lot of love for this performance on these boards and though I didn't like it as much as a lot of people it still deserves mention here, despite the fact the character technically wasn't a teacher. Herbert Gower (Richard Mulligan) was actually an escaped mental patient who wandered into this school somehow and was mistaken for a substitute teacher and before you know it, the guy is doing full blown performances of historical figures in complete costumes for an enthralled class. |

Economics Teacher, Ferris Bueller Day Off https://i.ytimg.com/vi/KS6f1MKpLGM/maxresdefault.jpg "Bueller...Bueller,,,Bueller...Bueller...Bueller..." |

Miss Sherwood, Fame (1980) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...adderclose.png Anne Meara impressed in one of her first non-comedic screen roles as the hard-nosed English teacher at the High School of Performing Arts who constantly butts head with the arrogant dancer Leroy (the late Gene Anthony Ray). |

Elsie Thornton, Peyton Place http://i3.lisimg.com/5565273/700full.jpg Miss Thornton (Mildred Dunnock) was the beloved English teacher at Peyton Place High who everyone thought was going to be promoted to principal but was passed over in favor of newcomer Michael Rossi (Lee Phillips). |

Left blood all over the keyboard and I've been musically illiterate since. I think I was 6 years old. Caning photos now freak me out. I NEED A HUG!!!

Oh god they were wicked back in those days. My brothers had to bend over and get the rubber strap from the priests. And this isnt even that long ago. Any wonder I became rebellious and dumped my catholic upbringing at the ripe ole age of 11. And any wonder the pope is now crying people are leaving the church in droves. What a toxic life. Humans are not made to be cloistered away, deny intimate relationships, and take their frustrations out on children. OK rant over. This forum is bringing up lots of memories for me LOL. Need to get back to movies. Off I choof. |
Re: My Favorite Movie Teachers
# 58. I was originally thinking I wish TV teachers could be included (but of course there'd be a million of them!) because of Ben Stein as Kevin's teacher in The Wonder Years. How could I forget his first, most famous teacher role in Ferris Bueller!

Richard Clark, High School High http://cdn.movieweb.com/img.backdrop...PmuEa7_1_a.jpg Jon Lovitz was very funny in this Airplane-like satire playing a teacher at an inner-city high school trying to prepare his students for a special city wide test while battling an evil principal (Louise Fletcher) and trying to get to first base with a fellow faculty member (Tia Carrere). |

Erin Gruwell, Freedom Writers http://actingmonologue.com/wp-conten...2_scroller.jpg Two time Oscar winner Hilary Swank stars in this fact-based story of a teacher at an inner city school, who sacrifices everything, including her marriage, to get her students more interested in school by learning how to write down everything they're going through. She gets her students so enamored by The Diary of Anne Frank that they are thrilled when Erin gets the real Meip Gies to visit her class. |

Most (but not all) people rep those movie entries that you've seen and agree with, and make specific comments about those movies on his countdown. It's not a chat thread per say, so going to far off topic is not really cool. |
