Best duo in cinema

Hey you!

What do you think it's the best duo in cinema? Hitchcock and James Stewart? Alfred Hitchcock and the composer Bernard Herrmann? Scorcese and Robert de Niro? Akira Kurosawa and Toshirô Mifune? Tim Burton and Johnny Depp? Tm Burton and Danny Elfman? Steven Spielberg and John Williams?

I'm sure you know tons of duos like this. Which one is your favorite?

this is a great topic. I have to think about it for a while till I come to a personal choice, but I can say that Burton and Johnny Depp seem to work wonders together.

Spielberg and Williams

or

Ford and Wayne

All of those are excellent choices.

I would also add
- The Coens, and most of their frequent collaborators, like Roger Deakins, John Goodman, etc.
-David Fincher, and the musical talents of Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross
-Spike Jonze, and Charlie Kaufman (this duo needs to collaborate again!)
-Leonardo Dicaprio, and Martin Scorsese
-Richard Linklater, and Ethan Hawke
-David O. Russell, and Jennifer Lawrence
-Tom Hanks, and Steven Spielberg
-Pixar, and Michael Giacchino
-Christopher Nolan, and Hans Zimmer
-Pretty much anyone who does more than one movie with Emmanuel Lubezki
-Michael B. Jordan, and Ryan Coogler (there's only been two films, but they have a great future together)
-Disney, and Howard Ashman
-Seth Rogen, and Evan Goldberg
-Chrisopher Doyle, and Wong Kar-Wai
-James Newton Howard, and M. Night Shyamalan

I'm sure there's more I could think of!

Wilder and Pryor.

Wilder and Brooks.

And I know this is controversial in hindsight, but Cosby and Poitier

Paul Verhoeven and Rutger Hauer.
The two of them are basically responsible for each other's careers as well.
They'd worked together a load of times before and since, but international recognition came when they made Soldaat Van Oranje (Soldier Of Orange) together in 1977 and won an LA Film Critics Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Always enjoy their collaborations.

These two had something special.

Most people will pair Al with Bobby but even the former has commented on the way they bounced off each other in The Godfathers and Dog Day.

A great pairing waiting to happen: Coens and Bill Murray.

Discovered some others on the internet like Paul Thomas Anderson and Philip Seymour Hoffman, Steven Soderbergh and Matt ***on, Ingmar Bergman and Max von Sydow and Tarantino and Samuel L. Jackson.
These are all great partnerships that produced great pieces of cinema also!

Re: Best duo in cinema

Oh yeah, Soderbergh gets a lot of great simpleton, wounded pride performances out of ***on.

Grant and Hepburn was a better pairing IMO

But as far as director/actor pairings, I'll go with Raoul Walsh and Errol Flynn
