"Close my Eyes" is a very good one I guess,
it is about an unhappy married sister played

with her brother played by Clive Owen when he
visit her, Alan Rickman played the husband.

do you know of any other mainstream movie that

Sleepwalkers is the only movie I've seen with incest. The movie was terrible though. I don't recommend it. I believe it was by Stephen King.

"Flowers in the Attic", adapted from the book series by V.C. Andrews. The books were excellent; disturbing, touching, and heart wrenching, yet triumphant. The movie, a page of the entire series. The incest is between the brother and sister. They came of age after years of being locked in the attic, allowed no contact with the outside world. From what I remember, I read the series and saw the movie many, many years ago, they even had a child together. When they finally got out of the attic, the whole ordeal had a terrible impact on their lives.

I'm not sure of the meaning behind a "best" incest movie, but this was definitely one that made me see that type of situation in a different light.

As far as recently, "The Quiet" was superbly done IMO. Elisha Cuthbert (sp) was sexually abused by her father for many years. The end result was shocking and controversial.

I thought Sleepwalkers was an excellent thriller, and the scene where the mother is having sex with her son is so beautiful! The expression on her face looks like she is in pure exstacy! I also loved the scene in The House Of Yes where Jackie-o is have sex with her twin brother Marty. God, incest is such a beautiful thing, I wish there were more movies dealing with it!

I'd say La Luna, by Bertolucci. A fantastic film. Heres a link:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079495/

It is a little difficult to watch, almost pornographic in nature -- but if approached maturely when viewing it, La Luna is a great film.

I'm not sure what you mean by "non-porn", because porn by definition is intended to stimulate the viewer in a sexual way -- which case, I seriously doubt Bertolucci's intent was to arouse anyone (I'd say it's very difficult to find this enticing in any way).

Géminis. I think it is Brazilian. Twin Brother and Sister have relationship, Until Mom comes home one day. Actually a very good dramatic movies dealing with the subject with a tragic ending.

The War Zone is a terrific movie.

A canadian movie called Blood. Filmed over a few hour period and edited together real time. Won several awards.

Murmur of the heart was a good movie (already listed).

Pola X. Was it incest or not. That is part of the plot. Is she really his sister.

Love strange Love. A Man remembers the evening his mother loved him.

The Quiet. It was a good movie.

Oh and almost forgot. Ringmaster. With Jerry Springer, Jamie pressley.

Titus. Kinda a roman/modern mashup with Anthony Hopkins and Jessica Lange. I think she has a thing with her son.

My brother the Vampire. Quirky little comedy.

And none of these are porn. And almost all of them won awards and had nominations. Some even for Oscars.

Covered the subject for a paper in college. Incest in Hollywood.

Page 7?! Didnt know this was a hot topic. Alot of the incest films are romanticized, and when these things happen in reality its more sordid and destructive. Filmakers dealing in this matter arent educated on the subject worth a damn, but can make a pretty scene. Spanking The Monkey was well done. I bet theres not alot of incest love stories involving a little kid and an adult of the same sex. Is that art?! The answers no because putting anything on any subject matter to the screen isnt art but just filmaking. Is crappy rap music art? No its just music (maybe). Incest?! Feh! Bring back westerns is what I say. Hell even musicals.

Ah, TONGO. Good to see you're still trying to dictate what is and isn't art.

Interesting to see that you'd rather see the return of Westerns, a genre which romanticises theft and murder, among other things. These count as destructive, anti-social acts, do they not? Why should anyone make films that glorify such violent behaviour?

Also, who's to say the filmmakers aren't educated in such matters? Assuming that filmmakers count as visual artists and they want to express something about incest, what are they going to do?

I would imagine there are quite a few reasons why there aren't any child-adult incest love stories, but of course since there's a child involved, it's bound to be blatantly controversial regardless of whether or not the relationship is incestuous or homosexual in nature. Why these kind of stories don't get made is anyone's guess - I can't claim to speak for any filmmakers.

Stop trying to make an act of spiritual destruction into some romanticized visual art piece. What if these artists learned the repercusions of incest then show the child at an older age more F'ed up than the parent was. Oh but thats just too crass. Spanking The Monkey was more of an art movie than alot of the foreign fare. Why? Because it was shown as it is an ugliness for carnalities sake. To make it look pretty or stylish diminishes the content and that imo is schlock. Foreign drivel on brothers and sisters rutting each other as some spiritual epiphany is hilarious, and I can but laugh and point at this "smart" perspective.

Why should I have to tell you what counts as art? In a sense, almost every film counts as art. Also, that last part almost sounds like a joke. You like a single foreign film and it instantly means you can appreciate art? Quite a jump.

Well, if we're going to mention musicals, there's always the fact that Sweeney Todd's "hero" is a serial-killing barber who murders dozens of people and has them ground up into meat pies. Or that Chicago is about a pair of cabaret starlets who get locked up for murder.

Also, who's to say the filmmakers aren't educated in such matters? Assuming that filmmakers count as visual artists and they want to express something about incest, what are they going to do? Again, who's to say they don't take that under consideration? If we're going to worry about the repercussions that a film would have on certain people, then we can more or less disperse with the majority of films rated PG and above. Take Spielberg's films, for example - he made Schindler's List, a heavily stylised black-and-white film about the Holocaust, which resulted in the deaths of millions of people and the traumatisation of millions more. Should he not be allowed to make such a film for fear of offending all the people who have suffered greatly as a result of the events depicted in the film? The same thing could be said about WWII soldiers and Saving Private Ryan, or shark victims in Jaws.

I would imagine there are quite a few reasons why there aren't any child-adult incest love stories, but of course since there's a child involved, it's bound to be blatantly controversial regardless of whether or not the relationship is incestuous or homosexual in nature. Or that Chicago is about a pair of cabaret starlets who get locked up for murder. Bob Fosse was very risque, but had good taste. Chicago was art like alot of his works. As for Sweeney Todd Ive never seen it (go figure) but do you think a 7 or 8 year old kid being bedded continuosly by their parent should be made into a musical? Thats a big difference. Do you realize Sweeney or any serial killer would have in more liklihood been a victim of incest? Oh but those hard facts arent pretty to talk about, and dont get that art vibe that seems to be so all encompassing important.

Again, who's to say they don't take that under consideration? If we're going to worry about the repercussions that a film would have on certain people, then we can more or less disperse with the majority of films rated PG and above. Youre being ridiculous and I will stay on topic. The same thing could be said about WWII soldiers and Saving Private Ryan, or shark victims in Jaws. Speilberg waited ten years to make Schindlers because he felt he himself had to evolve as a filmaker before tackling a sensitive subject. In Private Ryan Speilberg said he could have made the omaha beach landing alot more gruesome, but held back because 1. the point had been made, and 2. overkill on gore can be counterproductive to the storytelling process. If filmakers approached the subject on incest with such carefullness, and respect their finished product would be alot different and more impressive. Instead said filmakers feel their ability to craft a scene is all thats important, and thats laughable.

I don't know, man - like any premise, it's got some potential as a story. Questioning whether it "should" be made is irrelevant because it's a musical/movie. As art and/or entertainment, movies and musicals are simply not necessary in the course of everyday life and so it's not like people "need" to see any movies, but they do it anyway.

Plus, way to make a judgment call on Sweeney Todd while claiming to have not seen it. Sweeney starts off the story as a well-adjusted family man who ends up being driven insane by unlawful imprisonment and losing his family. Incest never came into it. Why? Because it wouldn't have made any sense to the story. Besides, I figure when you claim that the most likely cause of serial killers is childhood incest, it demands some degree of proof - some "hard facts", as it were.

Youre being ridiculous and I will stay on topic.
Says the guy who immediately assumes that anyone who makes films with such controversial subject matter can only be doing it for the sake of cheap entertainment and doesn't care if such a film bothers anyone.

Again, I ask - how can you be so sure that filmmakers don't take this into consideration? What exactly is your definition of "carefulness" and "respect"? For all either of us know, their decisions as filmmakers actually do reflect a genuine respect for the story that they're telling.

I wasnt making any judgment on Sweeney as Ive never seen it. I was not insinuating Sweeney had anything to do with incest, but that it comes up alot in serial killers in general.

Ask a psychiatrist if you need hard facts to make this deduction. A damn large percentage of serial killers had been sexually abused as children, and alot of that percentage involves a family member. How could you not know this dont you watch movies?! :)

Says the guy who immediately assumes that anyone who makes films with such controversial subject matter can only be doing it for the sake of cheap entertainment and doesn't care if such a film bothers anyone.
No I was saying incest themed movies are mostly overrated and miss the mark.

Again, I ask - how can you be so sure that filmmakers don't take this into consideration? What exactly is your definition of "carefulness" and "respect"? For all either of us know, their decisions as filmmakers actually do reflect a genuine respect for the story that they're telling.
They dont research what the hell theyre making a movie about. Most directors dont, but in film incest is usually mishandled. Most foreign films that make incest themed stories have a common pattern, and they always tell their innocent story in some coming of age theme. They dont show years later the subject crippled with drug & sex addiction. They dont explore the disfunction in relationships, and theres ALOT more than that. Do you know why they dont go so far into it like that? Because its not very entertaining. So instead they make a pretty fiction, and be called artists rather than overrated. Just my opinion.

It would probably be better if you discuss a single film, perhaps Murmur of the Heart since TONGO's never gotten very specific either but implies that European incest flicks are somehow romanticized to wash over what happens to the characters later in life. Of course, there's no such thing as a "one size fits all" life. You know what? I think I'm going to put that one in the queue too.

This is the best place to post this I think.

Murmur of the Heart (Louis Malle, 1971) http://www.movieforums.com/community...pcorn/3box.gif+

http://pixhost.ws/avaxhome/2007-03-01/PDVD_004.jpg

Now this one I feel I'm underrating by a half a box because it really is an almost perfect little film and one of Malle's best. Considering that the entire film leads up to an act of incest, it seems to be almost like watching the most natural thing in the world, at least as far as that could be considered natural. Of course, at some point in man's early history, incest must have been the normal way to reproduce, but this film somehow depicts something which seems to be nothing less than a sacred act of love. The mother (Lea Massari) has three sons and a husband who doesn't especially love her anymore. It's 1954, and the youngest son (Benoît Ferreux) is 15 and really getting interested in sex. He goes to a Catholic school, but at the instigation of his older brothers, he loses his cherry at a bordello and then becomes attracted to a couple of girls his own age. While spending some time at a hotel with his mother, the boy almost becomes obsessed with how perfect a female his mother is (as most boys do at some point), but when she realizes that he's "checking her out", she slaps him and makes it clear that it's just plain wrong. However, enough things happen to both the Mother and Son on Bastille Day that something transpires which will undoubtedly shape the rest of their lives, and I, for one, can see it as a unique occurrence, totally loving and positive. The French, They are a Funny Race!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The French make the best movies.

I thought The Fly remake was the best incest movie, with Jeff Goldblum as the tortured scientist. His entire "incest politics" speech was chilling.

Seth Brundle: You have to leave now, and never come back here. Have you ever heard of insect politics? Neither have I. Insects... don't have politics. They're very... brutal. No compassion, no compromise. We can't trust the insect. I'd like to become the first... insect politician. Y'see, I'd like to, but... I'm afraid, uh...
Ronnie: I don't know what you're trying to say.
Seth Brundle: I'm saying... I'm saying I - I'm an insect who dreamt he was a man and loved it. But now the dream is over... and the insect is awake.
Ronnie: No. no, Seth...
Seth Brundle: I'm saying... I'll hurt you if you stay.

Ah humor. I guess.

Didn't see this one mentioned:

Little Boy Blue (1997), Antonio Tibaldi

Actors: Ryan Phillippe, John Savage, Natasha Kinski

Don't care for it much. It revolves around a highly implausible "secret" -- not the facts are implausible, but that the main characters could be so oblivious.

Given your apparent issues with LGBT movies, maybe.

I will agree that incest-themed movies are in a different ballpark, though.

What a peculiar thread. I wouldn't usually comment on this, but I think I must because of my name.

Ingmar Bergman often dealt with the subject of incest in his films. Pretty much every one of his films, actually, has some psycho-sexual aspect to it. He was very fascinated with the nature of sex and its importance, practice, and meaning. Usually, the films used incest as a method of showing affection between people who did not know how to relate to others in a non-sexual way. They struggled to communicate and physical intimacy psychologically bound the couples.

For example, in Cries and Whispers two sisters who have despised each other for most of their lives are brought together by the drawn out, painful death of their sister. One is sexually repressed while the other is freer. They reconcile their differences in a scene of startling (and creepy) beauty. Sex is used as a symbol to show their union. They have never talked before, and now they are sharing everything.

In The Silence, two sisters appear to have engaged in an incestuous relationship their entire life. Their interaction is completely dysfunctional and any connection between the two could only manifest itself sexually.

In Through a Glass Darkly, a pubescent teen insinuates sexual attraction towards his sister and tries to kiss her. This, I think, is just a strong show of affection, and since his hormones are raging, his feelings come out in sex.

In Saraband, a father sleeps in the same bed as his teenage daughter. They kiss passionately in one scene, and a long incestuous relationship is strongly implied. The father lost his wife years ago and is wholly dependent on his daughter. He needs her for everything, and naturally sex is one of them. In fact, it's his greatest need. He loves her and sees her mother in him, and he's completely emotionally codependent. When she leaves and ends their relationship, he SPOILERS kills himself.

So yeah, if there's one mainstream director who deals with incest, it's Ingmar Bergman, hands down. He has other films, too, but these are the best.

"Old Boy" is the best incest movie ever (from 1993 or so). You have not seen it because it is a Korean movie. But, it blows any other movie in that category by miles.

"Les Diables" is a controvercial hard to find but well worth it if you do French film about an autistic girl and her brother. Adele Haenel's performance is breathtaking.

I normally don't approve of downloading films but if that's the only way you can see this film then you might as well risk it.

They had that on the tube two weeks ago. Watched it for maybe fifteen minutes. It was depressingly awful. My new candidate for worst movie ever made.

I just looked up the movie in wikipedia. I am glad I gave up on the movie early. What a ridiculous story. I find it unbelievable the novel was a bestseller.

Still creepy how many views it gets.

http://www.movieforums.com/community...1&d=1300213132

Yes, I had remembered the infamous flop that is Butterfly (1982) a while back but never got around to adding it here. For those happily unfamiliar with this stinker, it is where Pia Zadora's character seduces her own father, played by Stacy Keach. Butterfly might be infamous for its cheap attempts at sultry sexuality, the incest angle, or that despite the horrible script (based on a James M. Cain book) this bomb attracted an odd cast including Orson Welles, James Franciscus, June Lockhart, Edward Albert, Stuart Whitman and frippin' Ed McMahon as well as famed Italian composer Ennio Morricone!

And while it rightfully did very well at the Razzie Awards, what truly makes it controversial in Hollywood terms is that Pia Zadora, an unknown at the time (not discounting her work as a child actress in Santa Claus Conquers the Martians) was nominated for and won Best Female Newcomer at the Golden Globes. This was after her husband, a multi-millionaire businessman, flew a large contingent of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to Las Vegas for a lavish all expenses paid weekend. It is widely acknowledged that he essentially bought that award for her.
