I am depressed, what should I watch?

I am having the worst life at the moment, wouldn't bother explaining.
Internet could care less for my problems.

Planning a nice lonely weekend, shutting myself away from the world.

What movies should I watch?

I explained my grief hoping you'll recommend wisely as to what works for you'll in times like these.

Thanks to all.

Legally Blonde 2 is a movie about achieving your goals by giving the best of you. It's a nice comedy film so it won't make you sad just crack into tears of joy :D. And what a better color than pink!

Re: I am depressed, what should I watch?

First: sorry. :( I dunno if "the internet" cares, but I think most of us do.

Second: is this the kind of sad that makes you want to watch something happy to stave it off, or the kind you kinda want to dive into and explore by watching more sad stuff? Or that third thing where you want super super awful sad stuff that makes your sad stuff seem more manageable?

I tried my preferences, hasn't been helping lately. Hence asked what works for you'll or what you'll expect to work.

I am clueless as to whether I want a feel good movie or something so depressing that makes me accept things the way they are.

I suggest if you want to "lose yourself" for the whole weekend to go ahead and binge watch a tv series thats revered which you hadnt seen yet. Any genres you like specifically?

I'd prefer if you recommend it and not go by my taste.

I started watching Felicity lately, it's kind of nice.

The last good show I enjoyed was Bojack Horseman. Somehow it made me understand how helpless we all are.

Have you seen any of these??

The Walking Dead
Game Of Thrones

Justified, but skip the last season.

If youve seen these I have others...

I have seen few episodes of all except Sopranos. I don't think I am interested in them now.
Thanks.

I'd like something bittersweet I guess, something I could relate to.

I always watch How I met your mother, when I'm down.

How does that song go again?
Raindrop on roses and whiskers on kittens.
Bright copper kettles and warm wooly mittens.
Brown paper packages tied up with string
This are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites,
when the bee stings,
when I'm feeling sad.
I just simple remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so sad

watch Nurse Jackie. There's 7 seasons but they're only 30 min episodes. Edie Falco is great as Nurse Jackie, it's funny, dark and she's such a really capable character yet a devious drug addict at the same time.

"Harry and Tonto" is very heartwarming and inspiring, and it's my favorite movie ever.. It's on NetFlix if you want to see it.

Most of my favorite movies might not be best for you. I find "Buffalo '66" a very, very funny movie, which is On-Demand if you have Comcast.

Srpski film

MovieMeditation 09-17-16 10:08 PM

Damn, sad to hear that mate.

Try,

Seven Pounds
Ida
Toy Story franchise or animated films in general
Fruitvale Station
The Green Mile
The Elephant Man
Million Dollar Baby
127 Hours
The Before Trilogy
Tree of Life

Since you didn't want too specific recommendations, this is a very weird mixed bag of movies. But one thing they all have in common is that they helped me in situations like yours. Some may or may not be purely personal while some may work for you too.

Stay positive man.

Captain Steel 09-17-16 10:29 PM

I'm going to go with films that bring some sort of spiritual insight (... or something).

The Wizard of Oz (1939 - everything we need is already within each of us).

It's a Wonderful Life (1946 - the penultimate lesson about feeling bad for yourself).

The Elephant Man (1980 - when you're feeling bad, this movie makes you realize your problems are nothing, comparatively).

Revenge of the Nerds (1984 - a story about victory for those who are outcast and downtrodden).

Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986 - it's hard to remain depressed upon watching this, plus, it can encourage you to relax and take a day off).

Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987 - with a wink to Citizen Rules! Candy and Martin make some laughs in a story with some strong messages about loneliness, loss and friendship).

Heart & Souls (1993 - feel good movie with deep message).

Glory (1989 - Just a good movie that always takes me somewhere else).

Flatliners (1990 - why what we do in life is important, so make the best of it).

Shawshank Redemption (1994 - the "get busy livin' or get busy dyin'" thing usually helps motivate me).

Apollo 13 (1995 - a story of a real life miracle against all odds that's always uplifting & just a good movie to boot).

Castaway
(2000 - survival movies help put things in perspective).

Too many to list, but just about any sports movie will do - almost all of them are good to help get you out of a funk - I think that's why they are one of my favorite genres even though I have little interest in real life professional sports.

Silver linings playbook

Or to cheer you up ace Ventura pet detective.

Captain Steel 09-17-16 10:55 PM

Re: I am depressed, what should I watch?

Defending Your Life (1991 - one of my favorite underrated, conceptual movies that always makes me feel better when depressed.)

Babe (1995 - not only is it a movie "that everyone loves" - even though they keep deleting it from that list - but it's a fable that brings out the child in each of us). ;)

My Dog Skip (2000 - bitter sweet heartwarming tearjerker about a boy and his dog).

NedStark09 09-17-16 10:56 PM

Re: I am depressed, what should I watch?

If one is depressed and One Movie Does Not Do It Then I Suggest The Pirates Of The Caribbean Movies. Despite what some critics say Adventure Movies like this or Maybe Indiana Jones would be great. People always need good escape movies and movies not based in to day or real modern events is the best kind of despression escape. While I Love Game Of Thrones I think there is just too much well things in it that just might not make one feel better if are depressed.

Re: I am depressed, what should I watch?

In my opinion a lot of films suggested might be ok but then again maybe he might need more mood lifting films. I say escape is the way too go. I saw Million Dollar Baby A Movie Which I liked well enough but it kinda has a depressing end.
Now Rocky would be a better Movie if he wanted too see a Boxing flick but if its a female fighter Girl Fight would be good their too.

Maybe he should tbh. The message is great and actually very fitting for a depressed person.

I've been down with stress/depression myself and while uplifting movies help me temporarily, I felt like it was the deep emotional movies close to my own feelings that really spoke to me. That's why some of my own recommendations were a mix of such movies as well...

Re: I am depressed, what should I watch?

Honestly, I don't think movies are the best thing for you. I can't say that I know what you're going through, but I have been through serious bouts of this ****. You need to push yourself to remain active and social do your best not to spiral into activities that help you isolate. You also need to see a doctor. People (including me, initially) are often reluctant to get help with mental health **** because of the stigma that still exists/the lack of empathy from people who don't understand what you're going through or think that depressed just means "really sad". Like it's a weakness and not something physiological. I also thought that it would change who I was. That I was only so lost because I was awake and saw the world for what it really was, but that's not true. Meds work - not immediately, and it likely won't be the first brand you try that helps you - but it eventually will help lift the cloud that will let you be you again. Therapy also really helps, just make sure you're not talking to someone who makes you feel in any way uncomfortable.

PM me if you want to talk bud, you'll get through it.

Re: I am depressed, what should I watch?

But if we're talking sad, not depressed,

Indy
Midnight in Paris
Wall-E
Star Wars
Connery Bond
When Harry Met Sally
Predator
First Blood
Rocky 2,3,4,Balboa,Creed

are my go tos.

7thson 09-26-16 01:49 AM

As mentioned already American Beauty is a great choice.

Some others I recommend:

Children of Men ~ Such a great film and although the topic may not be one good for depression the scenes and story are riveting and will transport you which for me is always a relief when I am having trouble with my thoughts. "Hope" is a very strong emotional feeling and I get this from COM.

http://slinky.me/uploads/pic/8/slink...b86c1dc5d7.gif

Time Bandits ~ What can I say it is fun and a great ride. Always makes me smile during many different parts.

http://i.imgur.com/DzxFdiB.gif

The Burbs ~ good stuff

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCfvE03ufF8

Arlington Road ~ Kind of like a serious version of the Burbs (slightly) :). Love the casting.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfvJFb8XdLI

Charlie Bartlett ~ smiles, cries, and reluctant laughs, also uncomfortableness and being able to relate to a lot makes this one perfect for me. Yes, the untimely death of Anton Yelchin is not a happy thing to think of, but it does help remind me to appreciate every day I have here.

I really liked The Martian in that it represents an optimistic view of our current time when so much is so cynical. Actual teamwork and cooperation take place in that film. I find it to be very uplifting.
