Re: The Scattergories Song Tournament
Start posting your 8 songs, MoFo's!
Don't forget to include your Theme/Category as a heading to your list. |
Yeah, congrats Sexy on coming up with my idea!

I don't consider this one mine, at all. I was fixed on emotions, only. I love both ideas, though, and I hope everyone can keep them separate enough for both ideas to work.

Re: The Scattergories Song Tournament
Considering that the forum has MoFo's from across the globe, I will wait until tomorrow evening (when I get back from work) to start randomizing songs and kicking off the tourney. Hopefully we'll have at least 15 members by then.
Thanks gbg for the heads up! |
Re: The Scattergories Song Tournament
Seems cool, but I won't be able to get a list in for at least another 7 hours.

I was having trouble naming my theme, even though I knew what I was going for. I PM'd mojofilter with three words to help describe the mood. He gave me a fantastic "theme title" to go with in response. Thanks dude!
Basically, this is music that is in your face and visceral. I think all music makes you have some sort of emotional response, and these songs/artists represent the "negative" extremes on the emotion/mood spectrum. It is music people often hate for being so abrasive. Words like anger, grime, depression, trashy, help give an idea of what I'm going for. The perfect music to listen to on a rainy night... while lying in the gutter next to a dark alleyway full of garbage. My theme is... The Grimy, the Abrasive, and the Filthy |

Good night, MoJo. Swan, that is going to be very interesting. I hope you name at least some of them tonight.

We need 128 songs to have a proper tournament, so if we don't get enough songs, Mojo will have to figure out how to bring the total to 128 songs. That usually means giving each person an extra song or two, so you might get a chance to use them, but there's no guarantee. |
Re: The Scattergories Song Tournament
Maybe we should have done Emotions..... I can only really think of an emotion theme now.........
|
Re: The Scattergories Song Tournament
I'm going to take **** the world for mine, list up soon.
|
Perseverance songs:
Gabrielle "Rise" Aaliyah "Try Again" Destiny's Child "Independent Women, Pt. I" Destiny's Child "Survivor" Atomic Kitten "The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling)" Kesha "Tik Tok" Carly Rae Jepsen "Call Me Maybe" Katy Perry "Roar" I might change some of them later. |

I am really pushing for variety with this tournament. I think we should be conscious of our themes and try to do stuff that is different and unique from what's been done. I don't mean to tell you guys what to do, if I have to be the one to change my theme - as much as I don't want to - I will. Especially with the dark, angry music. If it was just me I'd be game, of course, but I know that kind of music might turn some people off of the tournament, and I don't want that to happen. |

That doesn't make it a different theme. If somebody else picked your theme first, you should pick a different theme, not just rename it and duplicate his theme. |

I would love that, but when we did country music a while back, everyone nominated old country music, like Patsy Cline and Merle Haggard. Non-country music fans don't seem to realize that there's been country music through the years, and there's still country music today, and some of it is even better than the old songs. |

I think Destiny is setting a really good example with her theme ideas (I noticed you posted US Cities and clothing). One of the neat things about this tournament is how creative we can be with our themes. It could be really fun and varied. They can be specific and still be something that resonates with us. I know mine is kind of lame but it was the theme I had in mind when I suggested an Emotion Song Tournament.
|

That would work for us, but I don't know if anyone else here would join, or even be able to find songs to nominate. There were some amazing country songs in the 80's and early 90's. |

I agree. I think cities was a perfect example of the way a theme tournament should be done. Clothing is another great example. Also, if Citizen Rules does his foods theme, that was a great idea too. Other ideas include things like transportation, colors, etc. |
I said I wasn't going to do another one for awhile, but I might as well join this one, too.
My theme will be the four seasons. But I have to get off of here now. I will add my songs tomorrow. |

I decided to change my theme, not because of the Derek or ATC, just because I started thinking I could be a little more creative.
So I'm going to change my theme to Animals. Bon Iver - The Wolves (Act I and II) St. Vincent - Rattlesnake The Roots - Baby (humans are animals, too ;)) Micachu and the Shapes - Vulture The Rolling Stones - Stray Cat Blues Feist - Sealion Clark - Snowbird Flying Lotus - Camel |

It's a shame The Monkees are referring to people, when they sing Star Collector. :p I love that song. It's pretty much my favorite song from them. Of course I also love Mary, Mary. . . . and Mary, Mary . . . Wait, that's not them. That's actually another idea, possibly. Names, people in general, etc . . . 16 people with 8 songs each would be 128 songs in the tournament. |
That's a great list, Derek. It reminds me of a favorite song I have right now. I'm not sure how popular Gwyneth Paltrow is around here. Her singing, that is. I think she's great . . .

Ok - assuming Lisa doesn't prefer I back out in order to perhaps let her keep one of her excess allowance (can you spell the word 'greedy' hun? ;)) - I shall go somewhat lateral in thinking with my theme and choose Fred Astaire. Why is that lateral you may ask ..... well all will become apparent when I put my list of nominations up ..... later.

Re: The Scattergories Song Tournament
eight, dammit not enough!
Mojo can you edit your first post and write in who is taking part and their category and eventually their song links. I often refer back to that when I want to replay a song, it's much easier to go back to the first post than to trawl through pages ta! |

I just looked, and I found out by comparing the lists, that Honeykid, Hubby, and Cricket aren't in this set. If we all drop one song each, that would be seven songs for each of us, and the two of them, and then 2 songs to start, for the third person. I will give up another song, as well, to make it six for me, and three for that person. Is this how we fix the problem, or what exactly? I've only been in two tournaments, so far, so I'm a little lost. Can you tell I feel bad about this?!? |

Good Lord, people. I posted right above all this, that all we have to do, is give up one song each. We'll have seven songs each, instead of eight. That way, Cricket and one other member can join in. Honey and Hubby haven't been on to say if they'd like to join. If they do, I am sure we can make this work, without anyone needing to bail. |
