Rate the last album you've heard

Well, since there's "Rate the last movie you saw" topic I thought it would be cool to have quite similar thread in terms of music. I believe the title is self-explanatory. Just note you can rate more than one album in one post.

Here we go:

Peste Noire - Ballade Cun^tre lo Anemi francor (2009) -

http://i45.tinypic.com/348fxuu.jpg
It's the second Peste Noire album I've listened to, but I've heard a lot of single songs on YouTube before. The first one I've listened to, Folkf^uck Folie, I give
. It's noticeably inferior to this record, but I like its artwork more. Ballade Cun^tre lo Anemi francor is way more interesting, introducing weird, medieval chants and woman vocals. The parts, in which the screeching vocals of Famine accompany the aforementioned female vocals are really something. There's a portion of oddly produced shrieks in a form of a rather short track somewhere in the middle of the record, but it didn't kill the enjoyment of listening to the record, in which the rawness and melody are combined in quite peculiar but interesting style. Will be listening this again. I don't deny it could be an
album.

EDIT: This censorship is horrible. If you don't like us to swear then just say you're gonna warn us for doing so, but that's the situation where I can't even type the name of the album. In the first situation it's a word "f.u.c.k'" combined with another word. In the second situation it's way more pathetic, as the bot (?) finds a word "c.u.n.t" in a word "C.u.n.t.r.e".

East Coast Avengers- Prison Planet

Haven't listened to the whole album yet, but I do love it so far. It's not un-patriotic even though some will depict it as so, but it isn't scared to speak against the system. It was released in 2008, and was strongly concerned with the election, so I'm behind in listening to this, but it still has its relevancy. The songs are all similar but I leave the beat transitions and messages with in the lyrics. The rap is powerful and thought provoking. My favorite song so far is Lady Liberty.

The Avalanches - Since I Left You

I rate this
because there's only a few standout tracks and the rest kind of blurs together, so it's not exactly a bad album but as far as 60-minute albums go there's not enough interest to allow it a higher score.

Well, I guess it doesn't matter since you appear to be banned, but my main beef with Since I Left You is that it's quite honestly rather boring. "Frontier Psychiatrist" is the only song that sticks out with its borderline-novelty collage of vocal samples and the rest kind of sinks into this bland summery sample-heavy hip-hop. If anything, 3/5 is kind of generous really.

So far I've heard a lot of negative things. Mostly, negative things. All the positive things I've seen so far are like "AMG I LOVE IT SOSOSOSO MUCH SO EPIC <3333333". You're basically the first person who is kind of middle-of-the-road, yet a 7/10 is still pretty damn high.

To be precise, when I call it "boring" I'm mainly complaining about the lack of variety. It starts off pleasantly enough with the title track but then I realise that nearly every track after that sounds virtually the same to me. No matter how well-produced the songs may be, they just don't do anything to engages me. The fact that all the tracks continuously flow into one another without any real breaks only adds to my feeling that most of them sound way too similar and I basically zone out until "Frontier Psychiatrist", then once that's over it's back to more of the same and then the album ends. It gets 3/5 mainly on the basis that it's well-produced and that "Since I Left You" and "Frontier Psychiatrist" are pretty good by themselves, but otherwise it's kind of a drag.

Funny youre saying its musically most interesting. Id say the opposite. Many of the songs like Get lucky are very uninteresting and just very mainstream, especially given that Daft Punk have been one of the pioneers of house before. Homework is way more interesting than this... just a pretty basic pop album.

I've stated before that I have no problems with "Van Hagar", and this is certainly their finest hour. The three synthy, brilliant singles (Dreams, Why Can't This Be Love, Love Walks In) are the highlights and the tight rockers (Best Of Both Worlds, Summer Nights and the title track) sound just as fun as the Lee Roth years. The only problem is that sometimes the synth-dominated ballads don't mix well with the straight up rock stuff, but most of the time it works and 5150 remains one of the band's best albums, not just for the Hagar era, but in general (it would probably the best, in my opinion, if their amazing debut didn't exist).

PETER CRISS

http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/4050/b1f3.jpg

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

This album has been run roughshod over since the day it was released. Its critics lambaste it for not sounding like a KISS record, which isn't entirely true - many of the songs on this album have a similar feel to the group's cuts that feature Criss prominently, (think "Nothin' To Lose," and "Mainline"). Probably due to the (much-deserved) success of Beth, Criss has never been recognized as the fine r&b/soul vocalist he truly is, and more than any other member of the band, he went into the studio to produce the album he couldn't make within the confines of KISS. With a rasp somewhere between Bruce Springsteen and Rod Stewart, Criss tempers the expected ballads with equal doses of rock and funk. Opener "I'm Gonna Love You" is a first-rate soul stomper, complete with punchy horns and Supremes-style back-ups. "Easy Thing" and "I Can't Stop the Rain" are big, epic love songs that Criss and his sandpaper lungs deliver beautifully, and his snappy version of "Tossin' & Turnin'" holds its own.

KISS were at the height of their popularity when the solo projects were released, and Criss could easily have stuck with the tried and true and been assured of strong sales. Daring to be different requires guts and should be commended, especially when the end result is a fine album such as this.

Burzum - Filosofem (1996)

Now, who has never heard about Varg? That infamous black metal persona, the church arsonist and eventually a murderer, even though he always stated it was just a self-defense, spent some time in prison recording ambient passages, but before that he was a black metal musician - trv and kvlt to the core. After a hiatus lasting a decade or so, he decided to record music again and managed to spit out a couple of records in the last few years. One of them, Fallen, I found a really catchy take on atmospheric black metal aesthetics. It wasn't as well received by the die-hard fans as it isn't as cold and snow-coated as Varg's pre-prison era efforts, though. Varg is a very controversial guy and it's one of the reasons I've been keeping away from his music for so long, but all in all, it's just a music and listening to it doesn't mean I agree with musician's beliefs, so I decided to familiarize myself with arguably a very influential black metal musician. There was Fallen and now it's the time for Filosofem.

Apart from all that controversial ballyhoo, the music itself is pretty intriguing as well. The first track that kicks in has to be my favorite of the whole album. With its raw heavily distorted riffs and repetitious, almost hypnotic, atmosphere, Dunkelheit is a perfect harbinger of what comes next. And it's not an easy listen. Especially for people new to the genre of black metal. Varg throws his idea of what black metal is right in front of you and does not promise anything. Not only will a listener encounter an unpleasantly sounding noise and dregs of something to be called music, but also will have to endure a 25-minutes-long ambient track in the middle of the CD. If in the right mood, he will shortly discover a beauty hidden in those abrasive, austere notes and will be rewarded with even more of them. Personally, I've listened to more supposedly ugly albums and been able to find an element of beauty in them, but Filosofem is not a bad example of this. Lasting for over an hour, the album is a drag, but so am I...

Right now I feel like giving it a strong
, or weak
. I also believe that given more listens, this CD may grow on me, but the question is: Will I desire to return to this inhospitable, frost-bitten world? Time will tell.

Rather disappointing considering who made it. Generic sounding hard rock/heavy metal instead of the super epic sounding classics the same guys did about 25 years ago.

The stuff those bands did 25 years ago is generic sounding metal.

14. The Train, Pt. 2 (Sir Lucious Left Foot Saves the Day) -

15. Back Up Plan -

It's been awhile since I listened to this album, I remember it fondly, so a revisit was in order. I think I might have overrated it because of how much I love "Shutterbugg."

This album would have benefited from better hooks. I wasn't really feeling most of them, and the hook on "Follow Us" ruins the song entirely. If weren't for these hooks, this album would be a bona fide masterpiece.

Tracks 5-8 are fantastic and make this album worth listening to. "Daddy Fat Sax" belongs in that category as well. "Shutterbugg" is by far the best track on the album, and a contender for best song of 2010. Yelawolf deserves a shoutout for his two best verses ever, both on "You Ain't No DJ." I usually don't like that guy, but somehow his schtick worked in the context of the song.

I love this album so much. It's my favorite rap album, maybe my favorite album period. There's nothing I dislike about it. Every person Kanye recruits to join him on this masterpiece steps their game up. Nicki Minaj kills it. How often do you get to say that?

Kanye's sample game has always been top-notch, but the sampling of "21st Century Schizoid Man" on "POWER" melts my brain every time it screeches off the wax.

That piano on Runaway though. I wanna make love to this album.

My favorite album right now. It's an album that grows on you the more you listen to it, so even though I liked it at first, I love it now. I love just lying in my bed with the album playing.

My favorite song on it is "Nara". And no, it's not just because of the line "love is the warmest color." :p

I stopped listening to this kind of music, but I remember I really liked A7X. I even learnt some of their stuff on guitar. I didn't listen to Hail to the King, because by the time it was released I already lost my interest with the band, but I heard it's one big rip-off.

12. All I Know -

13. Suck My Dick Hoe -
- The last 30 seconds of this song is a commercial for his upcoming work and his "250 free songs" on some website
14. I Got Bitches -
- Lil B does something like sing-wail-rap over the "Dirty Diana" instrumental. It's amazing. One of only two humorous songs that hit. (by the way, this isn't the only song called "I Got Bitches" by Lil B. I think he has a bunch of songs with that same title as a joke, but I don't know what is real anymore.)
15. The Summer (Interlude)
16. The Summer -

17. Violate That Bitch -

18. T-Shirt & Buddens -
- A surprisingly good diss song.
19. Like A Martian -

Lil B is so prolific that it's impossible for all of his releases to suck, or for all of his releases to be good. He's also an enigma, an anomaly to be sure. He is the most polarizing figure in rap, or perhaps that's not that the correct way to put it. It's hard to tell if people who claim to like him really do. There's people who ironically love the self-proclaimed Based God, there's people who legitimately love him, people who started out ironically loving him and got tired of the schtick, and then there's the people who think he is just trash. I don't fall in any of those categories, but I think most people who've listened to him do.

This particular mixtape isn't one of his good ones. This tape is missing any of his surprisingly deep serious songs ("No Black Person is Ugly" is a good example.) Not much of his attempts at humor hit either, really. I think the overuse of the word "swag" is meant as a joke, but it's hard to tell if B is in on the joke or if the joke is on us or if there is a joke at all. If Lil B is meaning to be funny, he's the best at deadpan delivery in the rap game.

I am going to listen to some more of his mixtapes/albums, I am hoping that this is an outlier on the bad side.
