So these are all blu-rays I take it?

Re: Seanc Makes His Collection Blu-tiful

My collection is quite weak compared to most of you MoFos but I knew if I waited till I had the collection In wanted to start this thread. 1)My collection would never get big enough 2)I wouldn't want to take the time if it did

I got rid of all my DVDs a few years back and decided to start fresh with Blu-ray. Part of the reason my collection is so small and the reason for the title of the thread.

Feel free to rate, ridicule, and suggest what I should add.

Yeah, the only DVDs I kept were the LOTR trilogy and my TV sets which I haven't added in.

You need some foreign stuff.

I have a City of God blu-ray at home and it makes me feel good whenever I see it.

Yeah, I have a list a mile long of stuff I want to buy. I usually only buy stuff I love though. There are some exceptions of course. I never blind buy. The only things on here I didn't see before I bought are from a Hitchcock set I bought.

Added three today. A new favorite and a couple of old faithfuls. Lebowski is a steelbook. I really love those, wish my whole collection could be them.

Saw the outside two too long ago so don't really have an opinion. Love the middle one.

rauldc14 09-12-15 09:47 PM

Re: Seanc Makes His Collection Blu-tiful

Well I like the first two. I'm not a huge Raging Bull fan, but it is technically stellar.

Friendly Mushroom! 09-13-15 12:44 PM

I hear Criterion is going to release a Blu-Ray edition of Drill Bill on November 2nd.

Picked up four more. Two off of my 100. One that I have desperately been wanting to rewatch in Drive. Inside Llewyn Davis is a new favorite from the great Coen brothers. Love & Mercy is my second favorite movie of the year so far. I hope a lot of MoFos will be discovering it soon.

Couldn't resist this for $16.99 at Costco. Still only seen the first one. This should get me to watch the others.

Cool, I think you'll enjoy it. I did, my wife did, my mom liked it too. Not sure if my dad had an opinion on it.

So far you haven't bought a single film I deem unworthy. Nice job, considering how sometimes you seem to love the wrong films. :D:up:

Re: Seanc Makes His Collection Blu-tiful

Why have I never seen this thread... Some great stuff in here and great recent buys too!

seanc 02-13-16 05:04 PM

Been a while since I have added anything. The Wal-mart bin caught my eye today so I picked up The Counselor, Se7en, and Ben-Hur.

Ben-Hur is actually a blind buy, which I rarely do. It is on my faith journey watchlist and is a classic of course, so I felt safe at the price.

You like Se7en, dude? That's why you're my boy.

I remember it fondly as a 4/5. I haven't seen it since its release, so I am long overdue to see how it holds up for me. I have been thinking about it a lot lately for some reason.

rauldc14 02-13-16 05:07 PM

Re: Seanc Makes His Collection Blu-tiful

Se7en is great obviously. I like Ben-Hur too. It's long (really long) but it was really well done.

Shed the carbs and you'll lose weight.

And yeah, Se7en is awesome.

seanc 02-27-16 12:15 PM

Went on what, for me, is a bit if a spree. I added:

3 Days Of The Condor
All The President's Men
Apollo 13
Diner
Double Indemnity
Jaws
Moon
Mud
Munich
Sunset Blvd.
The Tree Of Life

Still a few I want. I wish I could grow my collection quicker but I have to be a bit frugal with it. Buying Blu-rays definitely a luxury for me.

rauldc14 02-27-16 12:21 PM

Re: Seanc Makes His Collection Blu-tiful

I haven't bought anything in ages. I don't know, I'm not much into the buying mood lately.

Re: Seanc Makes His Collection Blu-tiful

Added three of my favorites from last year. Now I just need the time to rewatch them.

Nice setup Sean  If you ever win a DVD bet with me Ill make sure to get you CREED to make your Rocky collection complete.

Did I buy it because I am a Coen fan boy or because it is certified fresh? Either way I am force feeding this bad boy till it is my favorite of 2016.

TONGO 06-21-16 11:06 PM

Re: Seanc Makes His Collection Blu-tiful

For some reason I never heard of that movie

Redbox it. Anything Coen is worth your time although I don't love this one...yet. I am joking about force feeding but the Coen brothers do reward multiple viewings, and I haven't stopped thinking about this one for three months.

seanc 07-23-16 07:36 PM

Added a few lately: The Sugarland Express, Prometheus, Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond The Pines, The Killers, The Big Sleep, Thief, and Spellbound.

rauldc14 07-24-16 06:33 AM

Re: Seanc Makes His Collection Blu-tiful

I'm craving that Killers criterion. I may get some more Criterion's Thursday.

I'm not the biggest Kubrick fan in the world but I do think his movies are good and couldn't pass up this collection for $35. It includes: Lolita, 2001, The Shining, Eyes Wide Shut, Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, Barry Lyndon

Also in the past couple months I have added all three Toy Story movies, Finding Nemo, The Incrdibles, Aladdin, and 12 Monkeys.

rauldc14 10-30-16 03:37 PM

Re: Seanc Makes His Collection Blu-tiful

Sorry to hear about that Kubrick collection Sean. Though Lolita is a good one and I don't mind 2001

Sean have you seen all of these before?:

Lolita
2001
The Shining
Eyes Wide Shut
Clockwork Orange
Full Metal Jacket
Barry Lyndon

I thought Barry Lyndon was one of the best of Kubricks. I really liked all of those films, but I haven't seen Eyes Wide Shut.

I like them all except for 2001. I'm just not in love with any of them, which puts me in the minority with Kubrick. Ranking so far:

Lolita 4/5
Eyes Wide Shut 4/5
Full Metal 3.5/5
Clockwork 3.5/5
Shining 3.5/5
2001 2/5

Citizen Rules 10-30-16 05:55 PM

We're pretty close on Kubrick ratings, except 2001. If you ever watch it again, try and think of it as a arthouse film crossed with a silent film, that's what it seems to be to me.

Lolita 3.5/5
Barry Lyndon 4/5
Full Metal 3/5
Clockwork ? It's been years I would need to rewatch it.
Shining 3.5/5
2001 4.5/5

seanc 02-06-17 01:49 PM

Added a few in the last couple months and finally updated. A couple favorites of 2016 in Hell Or High Water and Nice Guys. A couple of new favorites from last years first time watches in Streetcar Named desire and The Conformist. Two old faithful's with Dog Day Afternoon and Heat. Then two Coen's I hadn't owned yet; Man Who Wasn't There and Miller's Crossing.
