Re: R.I.P. Sidney Poitier
Sad, sad and more sad :(
Requiescat in pace Sidney. |
R.I.P. I'm ashamed to say I've only seen one of his movies, Sneakers, which I loved him in - especially all of the Tahiti jokes - and listened to an audio recording of his stage performance in A Raisin in the Sun, which he's incredible in.

Re: R.I.P. Sidney Poitier
OMG I just saw the notification on my phone. He was such an amazing actor. This is just astonishing.
|
Damn, R.I.P.
I only watched In the Heat of the Night for the first time late last year. The scene where he slaps the racist rich guy must have been something else to see when it originally came out. |
They call him…MR. Poitier!
Seems several of his films, including In the Heat of the Night, The Defiant Ones and Lilies of the Field. RIP, good sir. 2022 already off to a rough start, coupled with Bogdanovich. |
Re: R.I.P. Sidney Poitier
I can't say I ever saw him in a film I didn't like!
Truly, one of a kind! "How do you thank someone for taking you from crayons to perfume?" |
Re: R.I.P. Sidney Poitier
Truly an outstanding actor.

Re: R.I.P. Sidney Poitier
I didn't realize Sidney was still with us. Like others have said he gave some stellar performances and usually landed in some really solid films. I just looked at this filmography and I've seen his well known classics, but wow he made a lot of films. I need to check those out sometimes...another great gone.

OMG...I thought he would live forever....a true icon who paved the way for black actors. I never get tired of re-watching To Sir with Love...RIP
|
|
I do not have a favorite role of his. Its probably a 6 - 7 way tie for first. A true icon...RIP:(
|
:( Ah man, this is turning out to be a rough year.

I've only seen him in a couple films, but he's definitely an outstanding actor.
RIP |
Re: R.I.P. Sidney Poitier
To Sir With Love has been a dearly loved film by me for most of my life.
And while I'm not a great fan of Norman Jewison's work, Poitier is great in Heat, even if I'm mixed on the actual movie. |

It's almost certainly his best movie though... of what I've seen. |

Yeah, he was up in years, but it's still sad to mark the man's passing. So many great films that he did, and so many that I still want to see. I love In the Heat of the Night but To Sir, With Love is still my favorite of his that I've seen and one of my favorite all-timers as well. Godspeed, Sidney.

He was in so many great movies. I just rewatched Guess Who's Coming to Dinner a few days ago. He was an amazing actor, and a classy person.
R.I.P. :( |
Re: R.I.P. Sidney Poitier
The passing of a great actor, a great role model and a greater man.
R.I.P. :( |
Re: R.I.P. Sidney Poitier
The skill of Poitier I think is about as close as America will ever come to a Shakespearian actor.
Dude was gifted. Great actor, fantastic human being. Repoze anpè, mesye. |
Am re-watching To Sir with Love right now.
