Re: The Golden Compass
It's part of His Dark Materials trilogy. So there are three overall. Depedning on the success of this one, New Line may decide to make the other two. I for one hope they do, and i hope they do them A LOT better.

Re: The Golden Compass
If they're maintaining the same target audience that they had for the Golden Compass then I can't see how they're going to make The Subtle Knife.
WARNING: "spoilers" spoilers below
There's spectres that suck the souls out of adults turning them into zombies, there's the killing by shotgun one by one of a troup of soldiers, there's comings and goings many times through different worlds,
What do other readers of the books think? |
Re: The Golden Compass
Actually, The Golden Compass was rated PG-13. You're probably not the only person who thought it was PG, though. The trailers made it look very much like a family film, rather than one aimed a bit more at young adults.

It was alright, nothing special. I agree that the film was a little too fast paced in the beginning, with everything happening way too fast. It kind of made the plot a little hard to follow, because suddenly something else is happening. And why did they advertise the movie as if Daniel Craig was like the main character in the film if he only appears in about 4 scenes? I kind of like Craig after "Casino Royale", but he wasn't in it all, it seems. If they make a second one, it looks as if he would be a main part of that, judging by the out-of-nowhere ending and the talk about him getting the death penalty or whatever. I did like the "daemons" though. That was kind of cool. But dang, Nicole Kidman's little monkey thing was ugly as hell. That kind of freaked me out. I would probably give the film a 2.5 out of 5 or something like that. Also, I forgot to say before: HI BLIBBY!!!!!!!!!!! |

Re: The Golden Compass
Ah, I see. It's PG-13 here. Odd. Anyway, I've discussed the film with several people, and most of them thought it was PG, too. It was certainly marketed like a PG film here. I don't know if the disrecepancy between the film's marketing and its actual content had anything to do with its financial failure, though, but it seems plausible. I don't think people -- fans of the book, or otherwise -- really got what they were expecting.
